The Bassin d'Arcachon

Famous for its Dune du Pilat, oyster-farming villages, and beaches, the Bay of Arcachon continually enchants visitors from around the world seeking a unique panorama.

The Dune du Pilat, an extraordinary natural monument and Europe’s tallest dune at 109 meters, offers breathtaking panoramic views. To admire this marvel, head to La Teste-de-Buch. Over 6,800 hectares of the dune have been designated as a protected area, under strict national preservation to maintain its natural state.

The Cap Ferret lighthouse, a listed historic monument dating back to 1947, replaced the original built in 1840 and destroyed during World War II. Inside, both ancient and modern maps trace the history of navigation on the Bassin and the lighthouse itself. After climbing 258 steps, enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the peninsula.

A must-see on your visit to the Bay of Arcachon are the typical cabins of the region. Originally used to store fishing gear, some now welcome oyster lovers for tastings right on the spot. Nearly a thousand huts are scattered around the basin, 81 of which are dedicated to oyster tasting, offering a wide range of possibilities for indulging.
