Over 6,800 hectares of the dune have been designated as a protected area, under strict national preservation to maintain its natural state.

The Cap Ferret lighthouse, a listed historic monument dating back to 1947, replaced the original built in 1840 and destroyed during World War II. Inside, both ancient and modern maps trace the history of navigation on the Bassin and the lighthouse itself. After climbing 258 steps, enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the peninsula.
