The Saint-James Bouliac was born of the singular and unusual vision of the illustrious architect Jean Nouvel.

While keeping respect for his work, the interior design has been entirely reimagined to offer rooms and suites with panoramic views over the Garonne valley and the city of Bordeaux.

3 centuries of history

The Saint-James sits proudly, a silent witness to the centuries that have flown by.

The walls of the farmhouse, built in the 18th century to house the Domaine des Marguerites, bear echoes of past histories and shared conviviality.

In the 1930s, the destiny of this place took a new turn. Hauterive, a fashionable bar, moved in, becoming a meeting place for local society. The laughter and lively discussions echoed down the ages, and every stone bears witness to this.

In 1989, Jean-Marie Amat, driven by a consuming passion for gastronomy and the art of entertaining, decided to reinvent the place. Working alongside renowned architect Jean Nouvel, he created the Saint-James, the first contemporary hotel restaurant. In 2024, after its renovation, Le Saint-James will become a unique jewel, blending the rich history of the past with the bold vision of the present.

An Architects' Hotel A unique identity

Drawing on the history of the Saint-James and the work of Jean Nouvel, Laurent Maugoust has preserved in our new spaces the singularity, accuracy and boldness previously infused by the architect.

Our Maison is elegant, timeless, warm, luminous and personal, thanks to amber tones and natural, sometimes raw materials that echo the environment and create an intimate atmosphere.
